Dungeons And Dragons: Honor Among Thieves- An Honest Adventure

I think everyone had the exact same reaction on seeing the trailer for this movie. Personally, I thought there’s no way it could turn out good. They already tried a movie version of Hasbro’s game, and it didn’t work, so why are they trying again? The last time was one of the biggest box office bombs, so everyone just assumed this would share the same fate. Oh, how wrong we are. A group of thieves help the wrong person steal the wrong thing, and it leads to them falling to their lowest point. But, upon learning what could be at stake when said wrong person uses the item, they decide that they owe it to themselves and to everyone to stop them, and to go from petty thieves to proper heroes. I want to preface this by saying I have not once played D&D. I feel like I would enjoy it very much, but I just never got around to it. Having got that out of the way, this movie was a total blast. You do not need to have played the game to understand it. There’s plenty of small easter eggs that hardcore fans will love, but it’s never at expense of the story. It felt like the writers were concerned with telling a good story set in the world, not just making a fan service film for the game. The ensemble of talent was casted perfectly, with every actor blending in with one another, sharing copious amounts of chemistry. Hugh Grant, especially, chewed on the scenery, in a way that only Hugh Grant would. But what stuck out most to me is that this movie is honest. It knows what it wants to be, and it doesn’t feel ashamed at doing it, which is the best thing you can hope for with a premise as wide and vast as D&D really is. I can’t recommend this movie enough. I can promise you that you’ll have an absolute blast with this, seasoned fan or not.
