Triangle Of Sadness: Laughing at Rich People Failing

With a name like Triangle of Sadness, you’d expect it to be sad, right? Well, it’s actually quite funny. Playing as a satire on the rich, Triangle Of Sadness follows a group of rich and pretentious snobs who venture on a cruise, only for the ship to be preyed upon by pirates, and they find themselves stranded on an island. It started feeling a little uneven with their characters, but once the story takes off, the point is brought across, and it takes it’s form. The one thing I wish we got was more of Woody Harrelson. Right around the midway point of the film, the circumstances pair him off with Zlatko Buric, and that is where the movie really got to show off what it’s doing. The overall premise itself is solid, but the structure needs a lot of refining for it to really work. Too much time is spent on the two main leads in their own respective world, taking a little too much time to set up their conflict. And, while this is on purpose, the main character is downright unlikable. The purpose is for all the wealthy folks to be snobby, but it went a little too far with him. As a whole though, Triangle of Sadness makes you feel okay for laughing at jerks, and it’s witty dialogue is enough to make it a good experience, be it a flawed one.
