Coming out amidst the build up to the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event on the planet, 80 For Brady decides to capitalize on the high fueled nostalgia of one of the game’s most successful teams, the New England Patriots. But real quick, a small little ad break to pay the bills. If you’re like me, and you’re looking to monetize your blog, there’s an option out there that can do it for you! More info on that after the review. Loosely based on a true story, 80 for Brady follows a group of four old women who are die hard Pats fans. When the team makes it to the 2017 Super Bowl, they decide to take the opportunity, and travel to Houston to see the game, and their idol, Tom Brady, in person. Along the way, they hit multiple snags, and face multiple issues, but they all remember that as long as they have each other, they can make it through anything, and see their favorite player in the best game of his career. Does that sound cheesy? Well, that’s exactly the kind of movie you’re dealing with. Cheesy, comedic, and a story that you can almost provide the exact seconds when a beat should be occurring, but it has a heart of gold. The main group of leading ladies (Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno, Sally Field, and Jane Fonda), all have impeccable chemistry, and they are the reason the movie works at all. The screenplay is very simple, and doesn’t do it all exceedingly well, but it’s those leading ladies, along with the emotional core they bring along, that makes the film a fun watch. And yes, it does play into the Patriots nostalgia a lot. As you can tell from my page, I am from New England, so I am a born and bred Patriots fan albeit a casual one. I remember that Super Bowl, and I still kick myself in the ass for going to bed at half time. It was in the third quarter that they pulled out a string of miracles, and this movie loves to cash in on those moments, and it really does work. Will it for a fan of the Falcons, or any other team? Probably not, but is that what they’re going for? I think the answer to that one is pretty obvious. If you live outside of New England, or otherwise don’t care for the Pats, then you probably won’t care to check it out, but if you like the team even a little bit, you’ll be bound to enjoy the classic memories, and might even have fun with the endearing cast.
